Crunchyroll Anime Awards 2023: Cyberpunk Takes the Crown as Anime of the Year

The votes have been counted, the judges have been heard and the orange carpet has been rolled out. At an incredible event hosted by Sally Amaki and Jon Kabira in the heart of Tokyo, Japan, the winners of the 2023 Anime Awards have officially been revealed!

In the bustling city of Tokyo, anime lovers gathered to witness Crunchyroll's 2023 Anime Awards. And the winner of the Anime of the Year awards was none other than Cyberpunk: Edgerunners!

Anime of the Year 

Cyberpunk: Edgerunners

As the name suggests, the Anime of the Year must be well-rounded display of quality performance, employing a rich, full-bodied storyline character designs and awe-inspiring animation and Cyberpunk meant to mix of all. The anime adaptation of the action RPG Cyberpunk 2077 by CD-Projekt Red was brought to life by Studio Trigger. The series impressed both fans and critics alike with its stunning visuals and voice acting performance, winning not only the top prize but also the award for Best Voice Acting Performance in English.

Best New Series

This Category is composed of anime adaptations that arrived on the scene to blow viewers socks off in 2022. The fan favorite action-comedy Spy x Family swooped in to steal the prize. While successful spy anime aren't heard of, they don't often outshine the more popular fantasy based shounen; however, Spy x Family was an exception.

Best Continuing Series

One Piece

Anime series with enough stamina to return for more action without compromising on quality are eligible for the Best Continuing Series award. There is arguably little to think when going up against the "Big 3", as they are the cultivators of global love that anime receives today. One Piece earns it thanks to Toei Animation.

Best Opening Sequence

Attack on Titan

There is a reason why Crunchyroll doesn't have a skip intro button, as great detail goes into creation of each anime's Opening Sequence. Attack on Titan conquers the music segment with the top viewed opening sequence of its time, earning "The Rumbling" more than 57 million views on Youtube.

Best Action

Demon Slayer

Demon Slayer with its breathtaking CGI and animation grabbed the Best Action award at the Crunchyroll 2023 awards. Demon Slayer showcased world class action and animation.

Best Comedy

Best Drama

Best Fantasy
